Ulrike Kaiser, born 1974 in Scheibbs, Austria, started to paint in her early twenties and was dicovered for her first solo exhibition in 2005 in Vienna, Austria. Between 2005 and 2010, a series of exhibitions in Vienna an Prague follows, before she moves to the United States. Kaiser currently lives and works in Washington DC.
As of 2010 Kaiser has been studying Drawing and Painting at the George Washington University Corcoran College of Art+Design Washington, DC.
In recognition of her outstanding work, she was awarded the Linda and Douglas Rosenbaum Scholarship in 2011. In 2013 Kaiser obtained her Certificate in Drawing and Painting from the Corcoran College.
Between 2010 and 2012 Kaiser participates in various exhibitions in Washington DC. In 2012, the Austrian Embassy in Washington DC hosted her - to date - largest solo exhibition featuring for the first time a representative cross section of her work from Europe and the USA.
Kaiser’s work from Europe was mainly of figurative content - using colors preliminarily as a means of abstraction. “Her [Kaiser’s] process was discreet, but the artist zoomed in close, painted large, and concentrated on flowing surface patterns and popping color contrast to convey expressive, tactile interpretations of faces and places,“ as Kaiser’s mentor and curator Judy Southerland from the GW Corcoran College of Art+Design puts in her “Flow(er)ology: Klimt, Kaiser, Peschev“ with which Southerland opened Kaiser’s solo exhibition at the Austrian Embassy in 2012.
Kaiser’s latest work, influenced by her life in the USA, but at the same time are deeply rooted in her impressions from her travels along the mediterranean and atlantic coast. The shapes and colors in her paintings create a visual narrative reminding of a search for balance with, and within, nature.
”I like to create a special organic and mysterious atmosphere whereby the viewer is brought closer to my work and establishes a dialogue with the images.“
